A British Point of View: Three Down, One to Go

wwe elimination chamberThe period from Payback to Money in the Bank has been and still is a busy one for WWE and its fans. After this past Sunday’s Elimination Chamber we have Money in the Bank coming up in our four 4 week period of three WWE PPV’s and one NXT Takeover event.

I can honestly say that if you look at the in-ring product these days, it far outshines what has ever been delivered before. The only issue with today’s product is the vast amount of it. Three hour RAW’s, two hour Smackdown’s, Pre Shows, Post Shows, PPV’s and episodes of NXT make for one busy week. The backlash (no pun intended) of this mass amount of shows is that WWE fans feels there is no way out (that one was intended, sorry).

The other side effect of this is that we don’t get match ups that are fresh and enticing to watch. We’ve just come of the back of watching John Cena and Rusev face each other for four straight PPV’s. People didn’t care about this feud by the time they finished their rivalry at Payback.

Whilst it was great to see Ambrose and Rollins in the main event of Elimination Chamber, we can’t say it’s a match we haven’t seen before. Kevin Owens and John Cena on the other hand absolutely stole the show and met all expectations. WWE showed a massive amount of faith in Owens as he beat John Cena clean. However, my excitement was quelled quite quickly when they announced a rematch will take place at Money in the Bank which will likely signify that WWE will want to even the score quite quickly. With that being said, the rivalry is fresh, exciting and it’s a glimpse in to the future of the WWE.

Granted, you can’t have fresh match-ups every month and due to the vast amount of television time that is swallowed up by the WWE conglomerate, you are forced to either repeat a lot of what has already been delivered or you are forced to give away a lot of matches that you wouldn’t normally see on TV.

WWE has been doing a little bit of both. We have seen far too many segments with Rollins and Kane at each other’s throats and we have seen too many matches which involve Sheamus and Randy Orton which carry no weight.
