Is It Smart to Bet on WWE?

Many bettors don’t understand why sportsbooks offer betting odds for a fake/pre-determined sport, but believe it or not it’s possible to make decent money betting on WWE events.

Unfortunately, you can’t bet on WWE often, as sportsbooks offer lines just for their monthly pay-per-views. I think it’s a smart decision, as it allows them to reward customers with special promotions and bonuses.

The catch is that sportsbooks limit the money you can win when betting on WWE events, otherwise WWE employees who already know the outcomes would bet on the wrestlers that are pre-determined to win.

The standard amount that sportsbooks allow is $50. If you want to bet on an underdog, you can’t risk more than $50, and if you bet on a favorite, you can’t win more than $50.

Let’s use the Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar No Holds Barred Street Fight from WrestleMania 32 as an example. Brock Lesnar was a surprise favorite considering that the use of weapons was allowed, which is something that benefited Dean Ambrose. Also, many thought that Ambrose needed the win more. The odds at Bovada were Brock Lesnar -150 and Dean Ambrose +110. If you bet $25 on Lesnar to win, you would win $16.7. If you bet $25 on Ambrose to win, you would win $27.5.

Let’s explain how the betting limits come into play. If you read on your favorite wrestling news site that Ambrose was due for a huge push, since he was the underdog the maximum amount you could bet on him would be $50, which would win $55.

But, if you followed logic and thought that Lesnar, a man booked like a fighting machine and a beast, isn’t paid millions to lose at the grandest stage, then you could bet $50 to win $33.4.

By now you should have a better understanding of WWE Betting. The betting odds at sportsbooks are usually huge and it can take a fair bit of risk to make money, but upsets rarely happen, so two or three bets on the favorites with the least chalk can be profitable and the sport is fun to watch most of the time.

Let’s use three fights from WrestleMania 27 to clarify this.

The Undertaker (-1000) vs. Triple H (+550) – Winner: The Undertaker

Randy Orton (-265) vs. CM Punk (+185) – Winner: Randy Orton

Rey Mysterio (+120) vs. Cody Rhodes (-160) – Winner: Cody Rhodes

Let’s imagine what would have happened if you made three $50 bets on these fights.

A $50 bet on The Undertaker would have paid you $5

A $50 bet on Randy Orton would have paid $18.8

A $50 bet on Cody Rhodes would have paid $31.25

Here, you would have won $54.25 with three $50 bets.
