How WWE Could Get a Great Universal Title Reign From Brock Lesnar

After Goldberg spent most of his comeback disposing of superstars in a matter of seconds, much of the WWE Universe were unhappy that this returning part-timer who wrestled for less than five minutes was suddenly the Universal Champion. And even though Goldberg is undoubtedly one of the biggest legends of all-time, many were happy to see him relinquish the belt to Brock Lesnar in their best outing at WrestleMania.

However, we went from having incredibly short Universal Championship matches to having none at all, because like a lot of fans predicted, Lesnar has been absent since winning the championship. It’s understandable that fans would be upset about this —because how can the already struggling RAW put up a fight against SmackDown LIVE if their primary belt is on a part-time superstar?

But that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to make Brock Lesnar’s title run a success. Yes, he’s held the title and has done nothing with it due to his schedule. But there are ways that WWE could ensure that the Beast Incarnate has a successful title run before relinquishing the belt.

Have Him Appear More Regularly

Look it’s simple — we all know that Brock Lesnar is a part-timer. His status ensures that he doesn’t have to work full-time and he always draws when he’s there. Thus, I’m not even going to both suggesting that he wrestle full-time because the chances of that happening are highly unlikely. However, that doesn’t mean that WWE couldn’t manipulate his schedule to at least make him a more regular presence. He hasn’t appeared in two months, leaving two RAW PPVs without a champion. It’s clear that the higher powers are holding off on his return so they can utilize him to steer their new event Great Balls Of Fire. But this has proven to be problematic as the red brand has suffered from low ratings, and it certainly doesn’t help that their champion isn’t appearing on the show. Thus, if they were to work with Brock Lesnar’s schedule and use the selected dates wisely (rather than spacing them out), they could shorten the lengths between his absences.

For example, he could have missed Payback but returned for Extreme Rules — an event that surely would have benefited from his presence.

It still wouldn’t completely solve the problem of the missing title, but it would make him a more regular presence and annoy considerably less people.

Put Him In Different Match Types

The main event of Extreme Rules is a Fatal 5-way Extreme Rules match between Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor in which the winner will become the Number 1 contender for Brock Lesnar’s championship at Great Balls Of Fire. While Lesnar’s return is indeed something to get excited about — mainly because the title is coming back with him — it would have been more exciting to see him involved in the Fatal 5-Way match, defending his championship.

Undoubtedly, Brock Lesnar is a major attraction, but a lot of fans have been quick to point out how repetitive his matches become, following the same routine of German Suplex after German Suplex. And one of the most common complaints revolves around the fact that the current champion may end up wrestling a string of one-sided suplex-filled matches. Thus, unless he’s wrestling someone like the Undertaker or Roman Reigns, the matches tend to slip into the same pattern.

However, changing things up would certainly make the reign all the more exciting. Since his return, Lesnar has mostly been involved in singles matches, but he has had some great showings in Triple Threat matches too. His battle against Seth Rollins and John Cena was one of his best matches in recent memory and his match against Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose was very enjoyable.

In order to truly get the best out of Lesnar’s title reign, WWE should consider mixing things up and involving him in Triple Threats, Fatal 4-Ways, Ladder Matches and even Elimination Chamber matches. The more men involved would increase the action, add to the tension and make for a much more thrilling experience. Moreover, it would also allow them to avoid the repetitive rhythm of constant one-on-one contests. This would not only allow us to enjoy some fast-paced action, it would also make us look even more forward to each of the Beast’s regular returns, making each rivalry unique.
