Roman Reigns’ History With Seth Rollins Sets the Stage for Major SummerSlam Match

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are set to face each other once again after the June 29 episode of RAW ended with Reigns accepting Rollins’ challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.

It’s already a huge match, but their long history makes it even more interesting. Over the years, Rollins has been the one rival Reigns has struggled to beat when it mattered the most.

Seth Rollins reminded Roman Reigns of unfinished business

The final segment of the episode began with Roman Reigns standing in the ring alongside Jacob Fatu as the crowd acknowledged the OTC.

Seth Rollins then made his way to the ring.

Rollins looked back on their 14-year history, starting with the formation of The Shield. He told Reigns that the World Heavyweight Championship should belong to him. Moreover, Rollins suggested he doesn’t need to earn another title shot.

According to Rollins, he has always been first in line when it comes to Reigns because of everything they have been through together. He reminded OTC that he pinned him at WrestleMania 41, sacrificed himself at WrestleMania 40 to help Cody Rhodes end his title reign, and has beaten him several times over the years.

Then Rollins made his biggest point. He told Reigns that despite all his achievements, there is still one thing he has never done, which is beat Seth Rollins when it truly matters.

Rollins admitted both of them are closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. He said SummerSlam could be their last chance to finally settle the rivalry.

Reigns didn’t argue.

Instead, he admitted that Rollins was right about one thing. He said he doesn’t just want to beat Rollins; he needs to beat him. The Tribal Chief then accepted the challenge and promised that SummerSlam would finally be the night he defeats Rollins.

Rollins wasn’t just talking. His record against Reigns backs up everything he said. In televised singles matches on RAW and PLEs, Rollins has won more than Reigns.

At WrestleMania 31, Rollins shocked the wrestling world by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract during Reigns’ match with Brock Lesnar. He pinned Reigns to win the WWE Championship. At Money in the Bank 2016, Rollins defeated Reigns clean to regain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Their last PLE singles match happened at Royal Rumble 2022. Although Reigns kept the Universal Championship, Rollins officially won the match because Reigns was disqualified after refusing to release a submission hold even after Rollins reached the ropes.

That history makes SummerSlam even bigger.
