Per a stipulation in the match between Billy & Bad Boy Hines and the Black Monsters, the Monster who was pinned in the third fall was supposed to unmask. However, he refused, so the Hinesâ and the referee forcibly removed it, but the other Monster covered his head with a towel before identification could be made. The Inferno was disqualified in his match against Choo-Choo Lynn for throwing fire. Frankie Rogers managed the Inferno. Luke Graham & Al Galento had been the reigning Southeastern Tag Team Champions since they defeated Lonnie Brown & Bob Morrow in a tournament final on November 6, 1963, in Columbus. The Columbus Ledger noted that Choo-Choo Lynn was the reigning Georgia Heavyweight Champion. Lynn had been the reigning Georgia Heavyweight Champion since he defeated Honey Boy Hannigan on July 30, 1963, in Macon. This version of the title and the one that would later extend from 1964 through 1981 were not the same.

DECEMBER 25, 1971 (SATURDAY) â” ATLANTA, GA â” WTCG STUDIOS (Paul Jones â” Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > El Mongol defeated Bill White > Dick Steinborn and Buddy Colt wrestled to a draw > Mr. X defeated Alex Medina > Jimmy Dancing Bear and Karl Von Stroheim wrestled to a draw / Notes: This episode was the debut of âGeorgia Championship Wrestlingâ, hosted by Ed Capral, on WTCG Channel 17. After having been on Channel 11 since May 1954, Ray Gunkel had become increasingly frustrated with the late time slots and constant movement thereof. On behalf of management, he negotiated a deal with Ted Turner, who had purchased WTCG in 1970. Earlier in 1971, WTCG became the first local station to launch 24 hours of television daily, and was interested in bringing professional wrestling in to fill time. It didnât hurt that he was also somewhat of a wrestling fan himself. This move for the promotion would ultimately make âGeorgia Championship Wrestling❠a much larger company, and played a vital role in the growth of Turnerâs station as well. The program would air from 6:00 to 7:00 PM for several years.
