However, he refused, so the Hinesâ<80><99> and the referee forcibly removed it, but the other Monster covered his head with a towel before identification could be made. The Inferno was disqualified in his match against Choo-Choo Lynn for throwing fire. Frankie Rogers managed the Inferno. Luke Graham & Al Galento had been the reigning Southeastern Tag Team Champions since they defeated Lonnie Brown & Bob Morrow in a tournament final on November 6, 1963, in Columbus. After having been on Channel 11 since May 1954, Ray Gunkel had become increasingly frustrated with the late time slots and constant movement thereof. On behalf of management, he negotiated a deal with Ted Turner, who had purchased WTCG in 1970. Earlier in 1971, WTCG became the first local station to launch 24 hours of television daily, and was interested in bringing professional wrestling in to fill time. It didnâ<80><99>t hurt that he was also somewhat of a wrestling fan himself. This move for the promotion would ultimately make â<80><9c>Georgia Championship Wrestlingâ<80> a much larger company, and played a vital role in the growth of Turnerâ<80><99>s station as well.
