The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently noted that NXT Superstar and former champion Sami Zayn has been sidelined with an injury. There was some speculation that he may be taking a bit of time off, as he was scheduled to work last weekend’s NXT live events, but ended up appearing in a non-wrestling capacity. PWInsider.com has seconded the alleged injury, adding Zayn’s shoulder is the problem.
Sami has not been seen on television (or…Networks) – apart from vignettes and signings at the Arnold Sports Festival – since dropping the NXT Championship to Kevin Owens at the last two-hour live special on February 11th.
As we recently reported, Owens is also out with an injury and recently underwent a minor surgery that will see him out of action for 6-8 weeks. It’s unlikely that either will wrestle at the upcoming taping event, although Owens is expected to appear in some role to keep the championship in play.
