The Mountain Goats Release Wrestling-Themed Album, “Beat the Champ”

10_700_700_516_tmg_900pxAmerican Indie folk band The Mountain Goats have released their new studio album, Beat the Champ which is available in the United States and Canada today. The album is themed around pro wrestling, with songs like “Heel Turn 2” and “Stabbed to Death Outside San Juan” on the alleged murder of Bruiser Brody.

Just a brief editorial note – Beat the Champ can be taken at face value for its obvious love and dedication to pro wrestling, but it’s John Darnielle’s personal story that comes through in songs like “The Legend of Chavo Guerrero” that really make the album great. In particular I recommend the tracks “Luna” and “Unmasked!”

The album is available through Spotify, for purchase on iTunes and various retailers.
