Lucha Underground Star Angelico Talks Trio Wrestling Catching on in America, Training with Ultimo Dragon, South African Wrestling, More

Lucha Underground and AAA star Angelico recently joined The Roman Show to talk about Trio Wrestling becoming a hit in the United States, training with Ultimo Dragon and South African wrestling. You can check out the entire interview at this link, and below are some highlights:

On the Lucha Libre style of wrestling catching on with American fans:

“It’s more difficult in some ways and fun in some ways,” he said. “I look at it as a plus. Instead of having four you have six wrestlers. More activity comes out of six than four people. It’s non-stop action.”

On training in his native South Africa in a facility with which Booker T was involved:

“I don’t know how much a role [Booker T] had. He was never there. They had the same facility he had in America,” he said. “It was like a sister school. It was opened for six months. Wrestling is not as popular like in America. It didn’t last long.”

“You can get to a certain level but if you want to kick it up to another level you need to get more experience with people who have more than you.”

On training with Japanese legend Ultimo Dragon:

“That was amazing,” he said. “I met him in a European tour. We trained and lived in a dojo. At midnight we would get in the ring. He wasn’t too much involved in the training. He gave real advice. He would get in the ring but he watched us from the side.”
