My Friday column for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is talking about it being time for Kurt Angle to return to WWE. Here’s an excerpt:

Kurt Angle is one of the last in a generation of greatness from the past 20 years who has unfinished business in a WWE ring.

Angle’s been gone from WWE for 10 years. He left and went to TNA, which allowed him a different work environment and less demanding schedule. A lot of quality matches with TNA were logged, and he did as much brand awareness for the company as anyone could.

Now he’s done with TNA, and just like Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Ric Flair, Mick Foley and others did — it’s time for that return chapter to be written.

The Olympic gold medalist is still in peak physical shape. His body has endured a beating during his amateur and professional wrestling career, but adrenaline still seems to wipe that away from bell to bell at age 47. Delivering the best match on the card is something Angle still is very capable of.

He’s capable and been gone for a long time. The landscape in WWE has changed, which provides several intriguing fresh opponents for Angle. Merchandise and social media is distributed greater than ever to tout the brand of someone like Angle. The clearance to work a part-time schedule now is widely accepted in WWE compared to a decade ago. The invention of WWE Network presents the perfect place to remind or introduce to younger fans the amazing background the Pittsburgh native has. NXT and Performance Center offers many avenues for Angle’s knowledge.

All of this means there is money to be made, and neither Angle nor Vince McMahon are going to leave money on the table.

The question then becomes when and how?
