What Were The Original Plans For Balor & Reigns At SummerSlam?
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter the original plans for SummerSlam were for Finn Balor to make his WWE PPV debut against Chris Jericho. Roman Reigns would have been the one taking on Seth Rollins in the planned title match main event. On that note, the plan was for RAW to get the WWE World Championship and for Smackdown to get the WWE Universal Championship. They note that AJ Styles was slated to win the WWE Universal Championship.
Roman Reigns’ WWE Wellness Policy violation changed the creative plans and WWE made the call to put Balor in his slot since he was another top babyface on RAW. Reigns was then pushed down the card as a form of punishment.
