CM Punk recently spoke with Ron Kruck of Inside MMA to promote his upcoming fight at UFC 203, and let slip one heck of a line in reference to an ongoing legal case against him.
Kruck asked Punk if he remained in contact with his former employer, Vince McMahon, to which the former WWE Champion laughed off stating, “he’s currently bankrolling a lawsuit against me, so I don’t think he’s going to be reaching out.” Punk continued in Vince’s voice, “Hey pal, how you doing? I’m suing you! L-O-L!”
This is of course in reference to the lawsuit currently in play from WWE doctor Chris Amann, who was anonymously accused of several instances of negligence throughout Punk’s main event career in the company, according to his controversial 2014 podcast with Colt Cabana.
A year ago WWE released a statement denying that the company had any involvement in the lawsuit between Amann and Punk, outside of their continued support for one of their doctors following an “investigation” of their own:
“Phil Brooks’ latest claim that WWE directed Dr. Amann to file a lawsuit against Brooks is categorically false. Dr. Amann made the decision to file suit in order to protect his professional reputation. WWE conducted its own investigation into this matter and found no evidence of wrongdoing by Dr. Amann, and thus continues to support Dr. Amann and the staff that runs our world-class medical program.”
While it may well remain true that WWE as a company has no involvement in the case, that doesn’t necessarily disqualify Vince McMahon as an individual from supporting Amann financially throughout the process.
Of course any party from the WWE end will likely deny Punk’s claim here, and this is pure speculation, but given Vince’s long history with stars that have controversially left the company it’s definitely not outside the realm of reason.
