HBK Reveals Inspiration for First Hell in a Cell, CM Punk on What’s Missing from the WWE Locker Room, Punk Refuses to Shake Gall’s Hand (Video)

HBK Reveals Inspiration for the First Hell in a Cell

WWE.com has published a new interview with Shawn Michaels, Bill Apter, Paul Ellering and Tommy Rich, to discuss “The Last Battle of Atlanta” match between Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer from 1983 which was recently added to the “Hidden Gems” collection on the WWE Network.

During the interview, HBK reveals that the cage used in the match was the inspiration for the first Hell in a Cell match, and he recalled the following:

“Undertaker and I had done a Lumberjack Match the month before [the first Hell in a Cell Match]. The next logical step is a cage. I can remember saying, “We’ve done cage matches.” We had that big blue steel cage that was brutal. It hurt so bad. It was tight up against the ring. I remembered years ago, Buzz Sawyer and Tommy Rich in The Omni, they had a top on the cage. I remember suggesting that. I had no idea the cage itself would turn into what it turned into.”

CM Punk News

Ahead of his fight against Mickey Gall at UFC 203, CM Punk spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, and you can watch the entire interview above. During the interview Punk talked about the WWE locker room missing guys like Bob Holly who would enforce locker room etiquette and get the “slobs” in WWE to keep it clean.

“I just mean there’s nobody in that locker room that’s, in a good way, an enforcer,” Punk said. “Nobody is gonna pick up the locker room, nobody is gonna clean up after themselves. They’re just gonna destroy stuff. It was happening when I was there. I was the guy that was picking stuff up and that’s because Eddie Guerrero always told me ‘hey pick up the locker room’, ‘can you pick up the locker room before you go’? And I’d be like, ‘yes sir’.”
