Biff Busick (Oney Lorcan) Explains Why He Got ‘Burned Out’ During His Time In WWE NXT

Throughout his time with WWE, Oney Lorcan, who now goes by Biff Busick, was renowned for his impressive in-ring skills. He enjoyed some success on WWE NXT, as he held the NXT Tag Team Championship once with Danny Burch, but the Massachusetts native was regularly viewed as one of the most underrated competitors on the roster.

Following his WWE release on November 4, Busick is ready to return to the wrestling world after his bittersweet run in WWE.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Busick looked back on his time on WWE NXT and described how he got “burned out” throughout the height of the pandemic era due to the lack of a live crowd. He referenced former NXT General Manager William Regal’s mindset about the wrestling shows largely came in either of two settings — large arenas and small rooms. Busick then expressed his preference for the latter and shared his excitement to compete in this environment again.

“When COVID hit and we had to do those shows without a crowd at the [WWE Performance Center], or when they started bringing people in, it just wasn’t the same,” said Busick. “I was burned out from those circumstances.

“William Regal would always tell me there were two types of shows—large arena shows and small room shows. They are different environments, and they both have their positives, but I’ve always been a fan of smaller room shows. To be so close and personal, and be so close to the fans, especially in Beyond, it’s an experience unlike any other. This is where I cut my teeth, and I’m really excited to get back and wrestle.”

Speaking of Regal, Busick credited the renowned veteran for helping him land with NXT in the first place. He also praised the plethora of esteemed mentors and coaches at the WWE Performance Center and made it clear that he has “fond memories” of his time there.

“I wouldn’t have been hired if it wasn’t for Regal,” Busick said. “And I loved it at the Performance Center. Learning from Regal, Shawn Michaels and Triple H, you learn so much from being around them. There’s Matt Bloom, Norman Smiley and Terry Taylor. There is so much experience, which is the greatest teacher of all. I’ll always have fond memories of the six years I was there.”

Now that his 90-day non-compete clause has expired, Busick is already venturing out into the wrestling world; he returned to Beyond Wrestling and faced Slade at the promotion’s “Day 91” show on February 4.
