Santos Escobar has learned a lot from Shawn Michaels.

Escobar made his NXT in-ring debut in February 2020 and has since become one of the brand’s top stars. He has won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, and he is the leader of the Legado del Fantasma stable. Throughout his time in NXT, he has worked closely with Michaels, a WWE Hall of Famer who is now in charge of the brand.

In an interview with Denise Salcedo, when asked to name the best thing Michaels has taught him, Escobar described how Michaels has taught him to enjoy himself. He also noted that the legend manages talent that way; he lets the talent be true to themselves and wants them to show their talent to the world.

“I’ve learned so many things,” said Escobar. “I know this sounds cliche, but just go out there and enjoy yourself. Once you got all the ABCs there, enjoy it. Be yourself. Shawn is a person that lets you be you. He could do you, ‘Do this or that.’ But he is wise enough to let you do you. He knows whatever talent you got and just encourages you to go there and show them. I just love that because I feel like myself when I go out there, and I think my familia, my people, my gente, I think they feel [it]. I think I emote from the heart, so if you see me smiling, I’m happy. If you see me angry, I’m angry, and I think that just comes through and touches people. That’s something that Shawn, he kind of pushes you to get there.”

Escobar will face Tony D’Angelo in a Street Fight on the August 16 “Heatwave” edition of NXT 2.0; if he loses, he will be forced to leave NXT. More information is available here.
