New WWE United States Champion Crowned On WWE SmackDown

The WWE United States Championship changed hands on WWE SmackDown.

In the main event of the March 7th episode of WWE SmackDown, LA Knight challenged Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE United States Championship. Late in the match, Nakamura got a steel chair, and Knight took it from him. Knight nearly ran into the referee, and Nakamura attempted to capitalize by spitting his mist. But Nakamura hit the referee instead.

Knight took control, but there was no one to count the pin. He ultimately hit Nakamura with the BFT onto a steel chair to regain the WWE United States Championship.

Here’s how the match broke down, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

Nakamura is in control early and lands his sliding German; Knight fires back with a diving bulldog and a clothesline over the top. Diving rope dropkick by Knight. After the break, Knight and Nakamura trade shots. Knight tries a BFT, but Nakamura rolls out of the ring. Nakamura tries to hit Knight with a chair. Knight blocks it. Knight almost hits Nakamura with a chair. The referee tells Knight he’ll get disqualified. Nakamura brings a chair into the ring. The referee pulls the chair away from Nakamura. Nakamura tries the mist, but Knight ducks. The referee catches the mist. Knight hits the BFT on a chair. Another referee runs down to the ring to count the pin.

This marks Knight’s second reign with the title. Nakamura beat him and ended his first reign at WWE Survivor Series. Nakamura, who was in his third reign, held the title for 97 days.
