WWE’s new show LFG, Legends, and Future Greats has been receiving a lot of positive feedback from fans and critics alike. Recently, one of the legends on the show, Mickie James, was in hot water with fans. During the most recent episode, James commented on Zena Sterling’s choice of wrestling gear.
James told Sterling that her in-ring gear was way too revealing and looked similar to lingerie. James also prefaced her comments by saying she wore similar clothing early in her career. However, she fought hard so she didn’t have to anymore and now it was a performer’s choice.
“I did like that we saw a new side of you, Zena. I liked your new gear. Can I talk to you about your gear? I lived during the Diva era and we fought very, very hard to not have to wrestle in lingerie anymore. Since I’m a female, I can speak on this. It’s very frustrating when women go out there and wrestle and all I see is their ass, and I can’t look past it and it’s all I see, it’s very distracting,” she continued. “So you want to be taken seriously as a wrestler, but you’re wrestling in pretty much jazzed-up lingerie. And that’s my opinion, and that’s coming from someone who’s had her ass on TV a lot,” Mickie James said.
Following this, fans and other wrestlers critiqued James for her comments, and some also came to the former WWE Women’s Champion’s defense. Recently, Zena Sterling took to Twitter to share her thoughts. She jokingly said that she has ordered a brand new gear that is a body suit that covers the entire body including the head.
“Won’t catch me getting yelled at for my gear anymore by @MickieJames … just ordered a new set ??Do u guys like it??!! #WWELFG #TeamBubba,” Zena Sterling tweeted.
Sterling also thanked one of her castmates, BJ Ray, for showing support after he said he disagreed with Mickie and liked her attire.
