John Cena is ready to ruin professional wrestling as a 17-time Champion starting tonight on WWE RAW.
Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena was a recent guest on The Pat McAfee Show. When asked why he wants to ruin wrestling, Cena gave a very thought-provoking response.
“I am so exhausted, and I have given everything to this,” John Cena said. “And it is instant gratification — like this, for me, that’s love, man [points at his wedding ring]. Even though this is an employee of a company we spent over two decades together, that right there is love. I don’t have I don’t have much of that beyond this, because as much as these people see what I show them, they don’t know me, and they’ll never know me, and they’ll never know who I am.
“And, man, you say they’ve given me so much. Dude, I’ve also given every effing thing I have. And now I’m at my sunset, and I don’t have like — I don’t — none of these people know me, man. Like, we didn’t do any of that stuff together. I mean, for real, you guys were there. That’s great, but I’m the one falling down.
“And that’s — I don’t know, man [sigh]. None of you are going to be able to see any wrestling, because I’m gonna ruin that son of a bitch. So, like, whatever, man. That’s all I gotta say about that. It’s not a matter of, like, oh, how far can I stick the knife in them? No, I’m just going to shut it down. That’s it.”
John Cena wants to force WWE to start over
Later in the interview, Cena was more realistic, knowing that while he can’t truly ruin wrestling, he can force WWE to essentially start over once he’s gone at the end of the year.
“Dog, I’m just gonna shut it down,” John Cena said. “That’s all. Here’s the thing, ruining wrestling is — there’s gonna be a show, everybody’s replaceable. There’s always another show. I’m going to make wrestling start over. That Championship is coming home with me, and I will be the last Undisputed WWE Champion, period.
“So they’re gonna have to make a new title. They’re gonna have to start the clock over again. And whoever is that first champion, whether it’s Cody Rhodes, whether it’s Dirty Dom, whether it’s Logan Paul, whether it’s Bron Breakker, it doesn’t matter. They’ll be the first one, Bruno, Hogan, Austin Rock, HBK, Taker, Game, every name you can imagine, CM Punk, that comes home with me. Because that’s what I’ve earned, and that’s what I want to do.
“I want to write history, and I’m going to put my stamp on the business by taking that piece of the business home with me. We all talk about this new era, and we talk about how the business is changing. Well, I’m taking the last piece of tradition in the business home with me, and you guys can figure out how to settle the dust when I’m gone, period.”
“Now, I’m not ignorant. I’m not saying that there’s never going to be another show. Of course there is. You guys will be here next year without me. You’ll be here the year after without me. I don’t care. I’m cool with closing this chapter of my life. But this one piece I’m taking home with me, and that’s so you guys can figure out how you want to do it here on out, because you’re not the same folks I came in with, period.”
WrestleZone will have live coverage of WWE RAW later this evening.
