John Cena has shared his reaction to CM Punk winning the Undisputed WWE Championship.
CM Punk made a surprise return on the July 6 episode of RAW in his hometown of Chicago. He came in as a last-minute replacement for Cody Rhodes and defeated Sami Zayn in the main event to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. With the victory, he became an eight-time world champion in the promotion and became the first superstar to hold the two modern world titles in the same year.
With his title win getting some mixed reactions from fans and wrestling personalities, Punk’s former rival, WWE legend John Cena, has shared his reaction on Instagram. He posted a throwback picture of the Straight Edge Superstar making his way to the ring for his “Punkanomics” promo on the June 27, 2025, episode of SmackDown. As usual, he didn’t provide any context, leaving fans to interpret his post.
CM Punk challenged John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship the following night at Night of Champions 2025, but couldn’t defeat him. The two superstars have a storied history in the promotion, and Punk was in the ring after Cena’s final match in December 2025. Now that Punk is back on top, Cena appears to be showing his respect in his own style.
Following his shocking title win, CM Punk is set to make his first appearance on this Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown in Oklahoma City. It will be interesting to see whether Sami Zayn receives a rematch or if the promotion proceeds with Punk’s reported match against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam next month.
