Report: WWE Planning New NXT TV Taping At 2300 Arena Ahead Of Summer AEW Residency

It appears as if WWE’s counterprogramming measures against AEW will continue this summer.

According to @WrestleVotes, WWE has lined up an “interesting” location for its Tuesday, August 19 NXT television taping. The outlet notes that this NXT taping would take place at the 2300 Arena, also known as the former ECW Arena.

NXT already debuted at the 2300 Arena on November 6, 2024 — but that’s not the interesting part. This new NXT television taping would take place one week before AEW is scheduled to begin its 7-show residency at the same venue.

“We’re told WWE has an interesting location lined up for an upcoming NXT TV — Tuesday, August 19 at the 2300 Arena in Philly,” @WrestleVotes wrote on Twitter/X. “That show comes just one week before AEW kicks off its 7-show residency at the same venue.”

When will AEW be at the 2300 Arena?

On May 2, All Elite Wrestling confirmed it would host a multi-week residency at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The residency will mark AEW’s debut at the 2300 Arena. The seven events include Dynamite and Collision tapings and the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view. Those AEW/ROH dates are:

  • Wednesday, August 27 – Dynamite
  • Saturday, August 30 – Collision
  • Wednesday, September 3 – Dynamite
  • Friday, September 5 – ROH Death Before Dishonor
  • Saturday, September 6 – Collision
  • Wednesday, September 10 – Dynamite
  • Thursday, September 11 – Special Taping of Collision

“We are thrilled to bring AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision to the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia from August 27 – September 11,” Tony Khan said in a statement.  “This residency has been years in the making, highlighted by an overwhelming demand from both fans and media alike for this legendary venue to host AEW events.  I look forward to returning to the 2300 Arena for the first time since I was 13 years old and bring our passionate fans in Philadelphia an incredible few weeks of AEW shows this summer.”

After months of speculation, WWE confirmed the date and location of its second-ever all-women’s Evolution premium live event. That weekend will also see WWE host NXT The Great American Bash and a Saturday Night’s Main Event Taping on July 12. The latter event will go head-to-head against AEW All In, and this isn’t the first time WWE has done so in recent months.

Tony Khan recently addressed WWE’s counterprogramming scheduling methods during the AEW Double Or Nothing post-show press conference.

Competition can be a good thing in pro wrestling. But for those complaining about WWE counterprogramming against AEW, it looks like it’s going to continue for the foreseeable future.
