Did You Know There’s a Luchador-Themed Tequila?

MLW star Salina de la Renta shows off the Luchador-inspired Don Gato tequila.

Salina de la Renta recently promoted the brand on her Twitter/X account. Salina is the Women’s Division’s Creative Director behind the scenes at MLW. She was recently seen holding two bottles of Don Gato Tequila. She captioned the photo, “Titles and Tequila!”

Actor and comedian Danny McBride created Don Gato Tequila. He’s best known for roles like Kenny Powers in Eastbound & Down and Neal Gamby in Vice Principals, and just finished the final season of The Righteous Gemstones on HBO. McBride also starred in popular movies such as This Is the End and Pineapple Express.

How did Don Gato get its name?

Danny McBride named the tequila after a luchador called Don Gato, who may be a fictional character. According to McBride, Don Gato “never lost a match,” loved cats, and had a passion for tequila. The character is a mysterious, cat-loving Mexican wrestler.

McBride got the idea for the brand while filming in Jalisco, Mexico. He partied with a masked man there and nicknamed him “Don Gato.” That experience inspired him to launch the tequila in October last year. Don Gato tequila also stands out for being an additive-free tequila.

This isn’t the only tequila to have a pro wrestling connection, as The Rock owns the Teremana tequila brand. AEW star Dax Harwood is also known to be a tequila connoisseur.
