They call her Shotzi. They call her the New Indy God, and they call her the New Death Match King. According to Matt Cardona, though, that’s not her (nick)name.
Last weekend, Shotzi Blackheart kicked off her return to the independent wrestling circuit with appearances at Hoodslam and Game Changer Wrestling. Coming out of the latter, which included an entry into GCW’s Tournament of Survival, Shotzi dubbed herself the New Indy God and the New Death Match King.
One person has vocally taken issue with Shotzi’s new nicknames, specifically due to them already being theirs, both legally and publicly. That person, of course, is Matt Cardona, who provided documents proving that the trademarks for “Indy God” and “Death Match King” belonged to him. Cardona additionally requested that Shotzi apologize to him and take down any social media posts referencing either moniker.
Best wishes from your New Indy God
Shotzi has since apologized to Cardona… kind of. In true New Indy God fashion, Shotzi launched her own YouTube show, called the ShotZ True Indy God Story, a parody of Cardona’s popular Z! True Long Island Story series from the early 2010s.
“This past week, I made my return to independent wrestling, wrestling coast to coast. First in California and then to Atlantic City, where I entered into GCW’s Tournament of Survival, where I became the new Death Match King and the New Indie God,” Shotzi said. “I just want to thank all the fans for giving me such a warm welcome back to the indie circuit, but one fan in particular went above and beyond giving me more attention than anyone else. With that being said, I would like to honor him by making him the Broski of the Week. This fan has shown me extra attention in this new chapter of my career. He comments on all my posts, tweets about me 100 times a day, and he even started making custom dolls of me.
“He even convinced his wife to build a house across the street from me,” Shotzi added. “Talk about a devoted fan. So your Broski of the week is Matt Cardona. Congratulations Matt Cardona, you have just won a signed Shotzi 8×10. ‘Best wishes from your New Indy God.’
On July 11, Shotzi will take on Cardona at GCW Boss of All Bosses in Dallas, Texas. The winner will presumably earn the bragging rights to call themselves the Indy God.
