One of the top female stars in the world of professional wrestling is the AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné. She holds several championships from a variety of promotions. Recently, Moné reflected on her childhood dream and why she wanted to become a professional wrestler.
Mercedes Moné was a special guest on MVP and Dwayne Swayze’s Marking Out podcast. During the interview, the CEO mentioned that since she was 10 years old, she wanted to become a professional wrestler. She revealed that initially, her mother was skeptical about her dream after watching how the “Divas” were booked in WWE. Moreover, Moné said that she had been determined to change the definition of a “Diva” in professional wrestling.
“Since I was 10 years old, I knew wrestling was my calling, my sole purpose, my everything. And I always told my mom I wanted to be a pro wrestler, and then I would watch it with her, and she’d be like, ‘That’s what you want to do?’ She’d watch the bra ‘n’ panties matches with me and the mud fight. She goes, ‘That’s what you want to do?…’ I’m like, ‘No, Mom, not that. Watch the next match. Watch Eddie Guerrero. I want to do that, but the female form.’ And I’ve always just manifested that dream of just being a professional wrestler that saved my life as a kid… I knew I had this dream of, I wanted to change the definition of what it meant to be a diva,” Moné said.
