WWE SummerSlam 2026 already had seven confirmed matches. Now, another huge bout has joined the packed card. Triple H officially announced Nick Aldis vs Gunther. The match became official during the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff event.
Gunther’s issues with Nick Aldis started several weeks ago. He failed winning the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy and Night of Champions. Gunther blamed Aldis for costing both title chances. Later, Aldis denied him a SummerSlam title match instead. He booked Gunther and Sami Zayn in tag action against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.
This led to Gunther attacking Aldis on WWE SmackDown. Things got worse after WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event ended. Gunther and Sami Zayn lost following Aldis’ interference. A win would’ve earned them a WWE SummerSlam title opportunity. That defeat left Gunther furious once again.
Triple H makes Nick Aldis vs. Gunther official
During the SummerSlam Kickoff show, Gunther interrupted Triple H. He demanded answers over the recent booking decisions. Nick Aldis then walked onto the stage soon after. Gunther kicked Aldis before both men started fighting as security quickly stepped in and pulled them apart.
Triple H then made a huge announcement immediately. He confirmed Aldis will face Gunther at SummerSlam 2026. WWE later shared the segment on X, formerly known as Twitter. This confirms Nick Aldis’ WWE in-ring debut officially. Aldis hasn’t wrestled since joining WWE back in 2023. He instead moved into the SmackDown General Manager role.
WWE SummerSlam takes place on August 1 and 2 at the U.S. Bank Stadium. Minneapolis, Minnesota.
