Bandido is honored to be in the main event to show fans what Lucha libre is all about.
The double champion spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of ROH Death Before Dishonor, where he will defend the ROH World Championship against Hechicero. Bandido spoke about seeing the main event as a way to show fans his talent, but also how far Lucha libre has progressed.
“Lucha libre has been getting bigger in the United States, I’m very happy to get the main event spot at Death Before Dishonor today here in Philly,” Bandido said. “It’s fantastic for us, and I’m so happy that Lucha libre is now here [in this position].”
Don Callis has recently been heard saying, ‘Yo soy Hechicero,’ which translates to “I am Hechicero” or “I am a sorcerer.” Because of his poor translation, Callis probably has no clue he’s claiming he’s Hechicero. is Bandido open to getting his hands on Callis if he gets involved in the match?
“[Laughs] Now I’ve got somebody [watching] my back,” he said, referring to his new partner, Brody King. “So if Don Callis wants to get involved in the match, he’s going to be very ‘welcomed’ by my tag team partner.”
Bandido highlights the best part of “Brodido”
Brody King and Bandido recently aligned, taking on the name “Brodido.” The duo captured the AEW Tag Team titles at AEW Forbidden Door. When asked what the most surprising thing about working with King is, Bandido said it’s actually just getting the chance to work with him.
“The best or surprising part of working with him is that, working with him. He is very different than me, we have [about] ten years of knowing each other, but we never worked together. So this is fantastic, this is pretty new for us both,” Bandido explained. “I think we are creating something new that people really love.”
The Most Wanted Hounds of Hell?
Bandido is a singles (ROH World Champion) and tag team champion. Does he have any thoughts on who he might consider for a potential trios title run?
“A lot of people are asking Brody about Buddy [Matthews]. So if Brody and Buddy are already aligned, I can adjust my style to them. I got the two giants [by my side] and ‘The Most Wanted’ Bandido, that would be amazing for me.”
Buddy Matthews has been sidelined since getting injured at AEW Grand Slam Australia in February. Matthews recently shared an update on the ankle injury, although it didn’t seem like he was close to returning. However, the alliance would add a formidable trio to AEW’s ranks.
Our full interview with Bandido will be released next week on WrestleZone. ROH Death Before Dishonor will take place live on August 29 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The event will air live on WatchROH.com.
