Bandido is proving that setbacks don’t have to derail a wrestler’s career.
The double champion recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about his respective title reigns in AEW and Ring of Honor. He is the current ROH World Champion, a title he won from Chris Jericho back at AEW Dynasty back in April.
Bandido said he was grateful for being able to work with Jericho, noting that the “Nueve” was always approachable and contributed a great deal to their storyline.
“Oh man, Chris has been amazing with me and all my family. He always helps me and he’s a such a great guy. He always helps me,” Bandido said. “I’m really grateful with him for everything. Chris Jericho is a great wrestler. He’s amazing and he just helps me with everything. He says, ‘Yeah, maybe we can do this, this, and that will be amazing.’ He thinks of everything, so that’s the reason why I’m very grateful [for working] with him.”
Bandido says he’s a bit limited in the ring after a wrist injury
Bandido’s feud with Jericho came after a long layoff due to injuries. Bandido suffered a wrist injury in June 2023 that kept him out of action until Final Battle 2024, where he first confronted Chris Jericho. He was once again sidelined due to a concussion he suffered at Final Battle and returned to the ring in February 2025.
In total, Bandido was sidelined for nearly two years because of those injuries. The luchador said the wrist injury caused him to adjust his in-ring style a bit due to limited mobility (although you wouldn’t know it based on his impressive 37-minute showing at Death Before Dishonor).
“Yeah, I needed to adjust my style because my [right] wrist [can] move [normally] and my left is only like this movement. So, I’m a little bit limited,” he shared. “But I’m very grateful to be back in the ring and doing my stuff.”
Bandido is proving that great comebacks are possible
When asked if there was anything from his career that deserves more focus, Bandido hopes to show everyone that you can always mount a comeback. In his case, injuries put him on the shelf, but he’s proving that you can still come back and do great things.
“Well, I just want to show the people that always you can go back. It doesn’t matter what happened before. For example, my injuries, I [had] a very bad time when I was injured. So now I’m here and I can do the match. And a lot of people say I’m doing great things now,” Bandido explained. “So, I just want to show them that never give up and you can really do your stuff.”
Bandido has been splitting time on AEW and ROH programming as a double champion. When asked if there’s a balance he prefers, he said that losing so much in-ring time helped put things in perspective.
“I had like two years out of wrestling. So now, Dynamite, Collision and Ring of Honor, I really enjoy that while I’m [also] doing wrestling lucha libre,” he explained. “I thought that I will never go back to do lucha. Because my wrist was broken and it was two times. I got like very bad thoughts about it. I said probably I’ll never go back to wrestling again, and now I enjoy everything.”
