ROH Death Before Dishonor: Zero Hour Results:

Jay Lethal vs. Jordan Oliver

  • The finish of the match saw Jay Lethal lock Jordan Oliver in the Figure Four leglock to win the match via submission.

Winner: Jay Lethal

Grade: B+

It’s really sad to see how far Jay Lethal has fallen in terms of being a big player in Ring of Honor. Lethal was a top guy for this company for several years, and now he’s just working random matches on Zero Hour. The match was good, but they should be utilizing their bigger ROH stars more to give their weekly shows some much-needed star power.

What did Sammy Guevara just tease…?

The Von Erichs and Sammy Guevara are outside with Lexi Nair. They hype up their respective matches for tonight’s pay-per-view. When it comes to Guevara’s tag team partner tonight, he uses the term “break the walls down,” implying or teasing that Chris Jericho could possibly return tonight. I don’t see this as being likely, as there’s no doubt it would have leaked, but I guess we’ll see soon enough.

MxM Collection (w/ Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie) vs. Frat House (w/ Jacked Jameson) vs. Dark Order (w/ Evil Uno)

  • The finish of the match saw Johnny TV spray perfume in Alex Reynolds’ face, allowing Mansoor to roll him up to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: MxM Collection

Grade: B-

This was… fine? I just couldn’t bring myself to care about anything that was going on here.

Does Jay Lethal truly have momentum?

Jay Lethal is backstage with Lexi Nair. Lethal says his win tonight was more momentum for him. He’s interrupted by Blake Christian and Lee Johnson. Christian says Lethal better pay attention tonight while they whoop on The Kingdom.

We hear quick comments from QT Marshall and Paul Walter Hauser hyping up their Fight Without Honor match later on tonight.

Pure Rules: Ashley Vox vs. Billie Starkz

  • The finish of the match saw Billie Starkz hit Ashley Vox with the Last Shot to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Billie Starkz

Grade: B

This was a fun match, but I don’t think the winner was ever in doubt. One woman is in the tournament and one isn’t. It kinda gives it away before the bell even rings. I still think the women should be getting tag titles before another singles title, but whatever.

$50,000 4-Way Fight: Dralistico vs. Adam Priest vs. Angelico (w/ Serpentico) vs. AR Fox

  • The finish of the match saw Dralistico hit a top rope Code Breaker on Angelico to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Dralistico

Grade: A-

They certainly saved the best for last on Zero Hour tonight. This was a great match, and I honestly wasn’t sure who was going to win as I could have made an argument for everyone in the match. Good stuff! Bring on the main show.

ROH Death Before Dishonor Results:

Tomohiro Ishii and Hologram vs. Premier Athletes (w/ Smart Mark Sterling)

  • The finish of the match saw Hologram and Tomohiro Ishii hit a double team maneuver on Tony Nese. Ishii scored the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Hologram and Tomohiro Ishii

Grade: B

There were some matches added to this card today just for the sake of padding out the card. This was one of them. I don’t think this match was needed on the show at all. That being said, the match was perfectly fine. I just don’t believe it was needed on this show.

Ring of Honor World Six-Man Tag Team Championship: The Von Erichs and Sammy Guevara vs. Shane Taylor Promotions (w/ Trish Adora and Anthony Ogogo)

  • The finish of the match saw a triple team attack from STP on Sammy Guevara. Carlie Bravo scored the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: And NEW Ring of Honor World Six-Man Tag Team Champions, Shane Taylor Promotions

Grade: B+

There was no brotherly love in this match for Guevara and the Von Erichs. This was a VERY pro Shane Taylor Promotions crowd. Had they lost, I think the crowd might have rioted tonight early. STP is a great act, and it’s about time they got some gold in Ring of Honor.

Ring of Honor Women’s Pure Championship First Round Match: Taya Valkyrie (w/ MxM Collection and Johnny TV) vs. Queen Aminata

  • The finish of the match saw Queen Aminata hit Taya Valkyrie with a headbutt to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Queen Aminata

After the match, Deonna Purrazzo comes out and the two women face off.

Grade: B+

This was very good. Glad to see AEW was able to help Aminata get back to the US quickly after having her passport stolen in the UK. The semi-finals match between her and Purrazzo should be very good.

The Kingdom vs. Blake Christian and Lee Johnson

  • The finish of the match saw Blake Christian hit Matt Taven low and followed up with a double team maneuver to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: Blake Christian and Lee Johnson

Grade: B+

It felt like The Kingdom had something to prove tonight. They worked this match like their ROH careers depended on it, and it showed. This was a very good tag match and another big win for Christian and Johnson. I guess this is going to lead to something with Lethal, I’m just not sure what that will be yet.

Ring of Honor Pure Championship: Lee Moriarty (c) vs. Xelhua

  • The finish of the match saw Lee Moriarty submit Xelhua in the ropes to retain his championship.

Winner: And still Ring of Honor Pure Champion, Lee Moriarity

Grade: B+

Another very good match. While this match was never in doubt for me, two wins for Shane Taylor Promotions this evening are a great thing to see, and the Philly crowd is eating it up. So far, this has been a very enjoyable show if you’re just looking for some solid pro wrestling.

Fight Without Honor: Paul Walter Hauser vs. QT Marshall

  • The finish of the match saw QT Marshall hit Paul Walter Hauser with a second rope Diamond Cutter through a table with glass on it to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: QT Marshall

After the match, the crowd gave Paul Walter Hauser a standing ovation.

Grade: B-

This was better than it had any right to be. The Philly crowd was firmly behind PWH and wasn’t thrilled when he lost. Paul took some crazy moves and bumps in this match, and as a Hollywood megastar, he didn’t have to do any of this. Really wild stuff!

RUSH is revealed as Sammy Guevara’s tag team partner.

Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship: Sammy Guevara and RUSH vs. The Outrunners

  • The finish of the match saw Sammy Guevara hit a Swanton Bomb to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: And NEW Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions, Sammy Guevara and RUSH

After the match, Guevara officially joined LFI. The Von Erichs come out. Guevara tries to play peacemaker before superkicking them, and LFI stood tall.

Grade: B+

This was a lot of fun. I didn’t see the RUSH pick coming for Guevara. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see The Outrunners finally win gold tonight, but they will have to wait a bit longer. This was good stuff. The crowd HATED Sammy, which made it a lot of fun to watch.

Ring of Honor World Championship: Bandido (c) vs. Hechicero

  • The finish of the match saw Bandido hit Hechicero with a bridging German suplex to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still Ring of Honor World Champion, Bandido

Grade: A+

This match was insane! I love Athena and Mina, but I think this should have been the main event tonight. You can absolutely consider this not only a match of the year contender, but the best match of Hechicero’s career. Incredible stuff! Go out of your way to check this one out.

Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship: Athena (c) (w/ Billie Starkz and the Blue Meanie) vs. Mina Shirakawa

  • The finish of the match saw Athena hit Mina Shirakawa with the O-Face to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, Athena

Grade: A-

Athena celebrates her victory as ROH Death Before Dishonor goes off the air.

ROH Death Before Dishonor Review:

This was a great night of pro wrestling. These ROH pay-per-views always frustrate me because they remind me of how great this brand can be if it were given some weekly focus and attention.

This was a very enjoyable show, and the roster should be proud of what they put on tonight.

Grade: B+
