CM Punk is looking back on a milestone night in AJ Lee and Naomi’s WWE careers.
The third season of NXT started on September 7, 2010. This season of the then-reality show competition series featured the official WWE on-air debuts for both AJ Lee and Naomi.
CM Punk commemorated the occasion with a post on his Instagram account. This included ‘then and now’ photos and the following caption:
“Happy 15th anniversary of the debut of these two beauts!” Punk wrote on his Instagram Stories. “Stay away from them, they are obviously vampires.”
Season three of NXT (before it morphed into WWE’s third brand that fans know today) also featured Kaitlyn (Celeste Bonin) and Maxine (Karlee Leilani Perez). AJ was ultimately eliminated from the show in week 12. Naomi was eliminated the following week, ending the show as the runner-up to Kaitlyn. Despite not winning the show, one could argue that AJ and Naomi went on to have the most success in WWE of that season’s cast.
Many people were surprised and happy about AJ Lee’s WWE return
AJ Lee made her long-awaited return to WWE on Friday night. According to Fightful (via Fightful Select), the women’s locker room reacted strongly to Lee’s return. Several stars who grew up watching her were thrilled to see her return. It was also noted that a few performers who weren’t scheduled for SmackDown still showed up just to see her return. One veteran who never worked with AJ before admitted to being shocked that she was back.
Naomi commented on AJ’s return before it happened, joking that it would result in the “crash out of the century” if it happened during her sabbatical. Naomi is currently out of action after announcing she and Jimmy Uso were expecting a baby.
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce announced that AJ Lee will appear on Monday’s episode of RAW in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Reports also suggest that AJ will team with CM Punk against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at WWE WrestlePalooza on September 20.
