Stevie Richards Says Vince McMahon Encouraged Him To Be A Bigger Asshole

Stevie Richards reveals why Vince McMahon told him to be a bigger asshole.

On his YouTube channel, Stevie Richards was asked about Vince McMahon showing his match as an example of “ruthless aggression” and whether he refused to put over Mr. Kennedy. He clarified that he never refused. Instead, he said he did something considered just as bad in wrestling — he asked a question.

Richards recalled the incident when he went into McMahon’s office, “But I walked in. Actually, I even knocked and leaned in. I said, ‘Hey, boss, can I get five minutes?'” McMahon said, “Yeah, of course, I really enjoyed that match. That was awesome. Stevie, you always just, every time we give you anything, you always knock it out of the park.”

Richards explained how he took this as permission to speak freely, “Okay, I’m definitely like, I can ask something. Based off of what you just said, Vince, I’m booked in a match with Ken Kennedy that’s going to go three minutes total, I know I can contribute more.”

“I know you can make money with me. And I’m not coming in here saying I refuse to do this or anything like that, I made a point. What I’m doing is asking you for advice. Coach me up. Tell me what I need to do to really make it and make you money.”

McMahon’s advice was, “You need to be a bigger asshole. You need to cut throats, you need to stab backs. Show me ruthless aggression.”

Richards admitted this wasn’t really in him, and said it’s “probably where I got buried.”

Stevie Richards says he thought he was fired after meeting Vince McMahon

Stevie Richards said to Vince McMahon about getting more opportunities. “I can work Ken. We can have an angle, a storyline. I could be his first opponent and put him over. But it’s got to be something more than this that I can contribute.”

McMahon’s initial response showed he was considering it. Richards asked, “But Vince, you own the company. Who do you have to ask?” McMahon agreed with him, “You know what, Stevie? That’s a good point. I’m gonna think about it. Thank you for your time.”

He also encouraged him to keep performing. Richards described his reaction after leaving the office, “I am so buried right now. I go, ‘I’m fired.’ I just felt it.” But 15 minutes later, someone approached him and told him he wasn’t working that night.

He asked if it was because of his meeting with Vince and was told it wasn’t. Stevie Richards thought things might have worked out, but reflecting months later, he admitted, “It didn’t work out.”
