Buddy Matthews has shared a positive health update amid his recovery from an ankle injury.
AEW star Buddy Matthews suffered an ankle injury while making his entrance for his match against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam Australia in February 2025. He underwent surgery in August and has now shared a positive update.
Buddy Matthews took to Instagram to post a video of himself doing hack squats in the gym, saying that he’s able to do this for the first time since his surgery. He also shared a few other details on his recovery. The caption read:
“UPDATE: Today was the first time since surgery to hit a hack squat – still very restricted with ankle mobility but working on it daily! Numbness is still a factor but hopefully subsides in the near future but still unknown at this time. Swelling depends on the amount of rehab I’ve done that day but easily maintained with Icing post. Take each day as it comes!”
Buddy Matthews Revealed Why He Started Photobombing Fan Photos With Rhea Ripley
During a recent appearance on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Buddy Matthews revealed why he started photobombing fan photos with his wife and WWE Superstar Rhea Ripley.
Buddy Matthews stated that he becomes protective of his wife whenever fans ask to take photos with her in public locations. He also revealed how the photobombing began.
“I’ve started to try and make it a bit of a thing. So let me get this straight. All right. The first one, I get the photo, but I go into very protective mode of her, because I don’t know if they’re just going to come up. If they’re just coming up to her quickly, and I’m kind of her repellent, right? I’m constantly looking mad. So they [might think], oh maybe we don’t interrupt them. I’m not a very good repellent, apparently.”
“So this one time, I was in the Publix’s line in the deli trying to get a sub, roses in my arm. I’m in my line, and it was a pretty busy line. While I’m in the line, someone gets a photo with her. I’m not losing my spot, I’m not moving, I’m getting that sub. So there’s a photo of me in the background just staring at him with roses in my hand.”
