Controversial Comedian Reveals Why He Turned Down WWE Writer Job

Tony Hinchcliffe turned down a WWE writer role when he was only a few years into his comedy career.

Tony Hinchcliffe addressed the opportunity during his recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, along with WWE legend John Cena. He noted that he received the offer when he was only a couple of years into doing stand-up comedy.

However, since the WWE role required him to relocate to Stamford, Connecticut, and he would’ve had to go through a tiring commute for his comedy commitments, he turned down the offer.

“Yeah, it was only a couple years into me doing standup like seven nights a week at the comedy store all the time. Someone’s like, ‘Hey, I have a friend in WWE if you want to have a meeting with them and just talk.’

“I went in with straight-up ideas, this that, The Undertaker’s brother comes back again, this, that, the next, everything back and forth. I can’t even remember any of them; it’s been so long. But I went in with a whole thing, this guy’s like, ‘Where the hell did you? This is crazy, you just did this?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I found out a couple days ago we were going to talk.’

He Would’ve Accepted The WWE Offer If It Were Anywhere Other Than Connecticut

“They (WWE) offered it, but I would have had to move to Connecticut and take a train to New York every night to go do standup, and that would have just been exhausting…

“…If it was anywhere else other than Connecticut, it kind of would have made sense; if it was in New York City, it would have been a no-brainer. If it was in LA, definitely.” [H/T: WrestleTalk]

Hinchcliffe, who found himself in several controversies for his dark humor and roast comedy, was supposed to host the ‘WWE Late Night’ comedy show on SummerSlam weekend before it got canceled.
