John Cena has praised a fellow WWE Superstar for taking chances on live television.
During a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, the Cenation Leader shared his thoughts on WWE cutting down on live events.
“But from my perspective, we’ve scaled back on the live-events-only offerings, which helps lick the wounds,” he said. “It’s weird — when you don’t bump enough, or you don’t bump as much, you kind of need to get in there and bump to build your callus, your wind, and your timing. So it sort of crosses your signals.
“But anyhow, the content we provide now is almost always available for media — like 99 percent of it. We used to be the opposite. We used to do four live shows and one TV taping. But it’s different now. Every piece is televised for the media, which is great because it gets so much out to our fans across the world.”
John Cena on Dominik Mysterio trying new ideas
“But I learned how to fail in those non-televised events. I could take big swings. Because if I’m in the middle of the card in Valparaiso and I mess up in a gymnasium with 3,500 people, they might tell me to f*ck off, but there’s also the last match that’s going to send them home happy. So I’d try a new weird thing. That’s where me being invisible (‘You can’t see me’ taunt) started. It was just like, ‘Try it. Who cares?’
“I don’t know how many people go out there and swing big like that. Dom (Dominik Mysterio) is a great example. ‘I’m gonna fake-ring the bell. Will people even get that? Who cares, let’s try it.’ Dom’s one of the few guys who will stand behind an idea like that.”
