Gunther can’t understand why someone would put Goldberg at the top of their best wrestlers list.
The former World Champion was a guest on ESPN First Take to promote his upcoming match against John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event. During the conversation, Gunther was asked for his thoughts on host Stephen A. Smith’s Top 5 Wrestlers List.
Smith has tried defending his rankings, noting that it’s not necessarily about skill, but the five spots are his favorite wrestlers of all time. Despite that reasoning, the list has been ridiculed since it was announced.
Gunther also laughed off the idea of Goldberg being at number one and said he enjoyed choking him out in his retirement match.
“What’s that number one? Goldberg?” Gunther asked.
“I love Goldberg!” Smith replied.
“I loved choking him out,” Gunther said with a laugh. “I’ll tell you this, I enjoyed that.”
Gunther said that while Goldberg is a legend and a special wrestler, he doesn’t think he ever saw someone rank him at the top of a wrestling list. Despite that point of contention, Gunther agreed with the rest of Smith’s list, which has Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Rock and The Road Warriors ranked 2 through 5.
Gunther sent Goldberg into retirement by beating him to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July. He will now attempt to do the same to John Cena in Washington, D.C., and promised to make Cena “give up” for good.
Gunther versus John Cena takes place at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event at Capitol One Arena in Washington D.C.. The event will also feature a huge cross-promotional match featuring WWE, NXT and TNA talent.
