Jelly Roll’s massive weight loss cured him of his color blindness.
During his recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, country singer and WWE star Jelly Roll opened up about his 200lb weight loss journey. He shared that adapting to a healthier diet helped him see color again after being color blind for two decades.
“Joe, I was color blind,” Jelly Roll began. “This is a true story. My wife will tell you. She jokes about it now, but I’ve seen shades of colors, like general concepts, but like hunter green, emerald green, green’s green, to me. I never realized there was nuances and prettiness and that some are brighter in tone. I just seen shades, so bad that like that’s why I wore black.
“Dude, I’d say nine months into no-sugar, I forgot what it was, but it was a plant at our house, and I come outside, and I grab my wife, and I go, ‘Dude, how long we’ve had that pretty purple tulip there?’ She goes, ‘What? I was like, ‘That is the prettiest purple plant I’ve ever seen.’ She was like, ‘You’ve walked by that plant for two years, what are you talking about?’ I was like, ‘There’s no way we’ve had a plant that pretty.'”
Jelly Roll Was Then Able To See Colors Clearly
“I didn’t notice it for two years,” Jelly Roll continued. “It was bright purple, Joe, I mean, it was screaming holy robe purple. Slowly, I started looking around the next few days, and over the next months, I was like, ‘I’m seeing clear color!’
“I couldn’t quit talking about it. I bought coloring books. My wife was laughing. This bit*h used to give me a tie to match to go to court, and I’m in there coloring. She was like, ‘What are you doing?’ I was like, ‘You want to color?’ And I’ve got like a 300 coloring pencil set.
“I was in with Cam Haynes, talking his face off about a bird yesterday. He goes, ‘I didn’t know you liked birds like that.’ I said, ‘I like color.’ He was like, ‘Really?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I didn’t see color for like 20 years.’ It had to have been the sugar,” Jelly Roll said.
