Former WWE Star Justifies John Cena Tapping Out In His Last Match

The reactions to John Cena’s WWE retirement match keep coming.

Cena tapped out to Gunther in his swan song at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. The outcome didn’t sit well with many fans. Chief Content Officer Triple H was met with a chorus of boos when he came out to greet John.

However, Gunther faced a hostile crowd as he made his way out of the building following his win over Cena.

The negative reaction wasn’t limited to the live crowd, as fans and wrestling personalities also expressed their disappointment online.

AEW executive Jeff Jarrett blasted the finish of the match with a sarcastic post on X.

“Love watching movies when the superhero gets destroyed in the final scene and then dies. Even better is when my favorite sports team not only gets beat but gives up with a smile on their face. Makes me feel good about spending time/money on the night. Creative is subjective,” he wrote.

CJ Perry defends the finish to John Cena vs. Gunther

CJ Perry, formerly known as Lana, recently appeared on TMZ Sports. During the interview, she justified the outcome of the match involving Cena and Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

“He’s 48 years old, and a man that’s stronger than him, taller than him, 10 years younger than him is choking him out,” she said. “Life doesn’t always go as we plan, I feel like if anything John has become more my hero because now I see that he is human. A superhero that is human.

“This is also what John has said, he says everything has to end, and this is why I think he is such a hero, we all have to know when to bow out, so he did it in the best way. Also he was just saying we don’t all live forever, and so that’s a really hard pill to swallow at times, but at the same time it’s like, if you’re gonna go out, do it this way.” [H/T: WrestleTalk]
