WWE Star Compares John Cena’s Last Match To The Series Finale Of Seinfeld

There are a lot of differing opinions when it comes to the ending of John Cena‘s last match against Gunther at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WWE Superstar Natalya recently spoke with The Toronto Sun. While discussing John Cena’s final match, Nattie expressed how important it is to validate people’s feelings, acknowledging how upset a portion of the WWE Universe is over the finish. However, she loved the fact that John Cena was able to go out on his own terms, comparing it to the series finale of the hit comedy series, Seinfeld.

“And here’s the thing, I think it’s really important to validate feelings,” Natalya said. “And I believe people online are upset. People feel angry. I mean, a lot of people are just sad and hurt and pissed that he’s retiring. Because nobody really — yeah, we knew we weren’t gonna get John Cena wrestling forever. But we were like, damn, you gave us so many — this last year, he gave us some of his best work.

“What I really love about John’s ending is that he left on his terms. I talk about this in my book, about beating the house. Very few professional athletes get to beat the house. Very few get to leave on their own terms. Most people leave because they’re forced into it. They’re forced into retirement; they have to go. John did what Jerry Seinfeld did.

Natalya believes nobody wanted to see John Cena leave

“Jerry Seinfeld stopped doing his own show when he was like the number one show on television. And I remember when I was a kid, because I used to love Seinfeld. My mom and my sisters, and I would always watch it together. We loved that show, and I was devastated when Seinfeld went off the air. Because they were the number one show on TV at the time. And Jerry Seinfeld said, ‘Yeah, we want to leave on top. We don’t want to leave when the ratings tank.’ You see, with John, he did it on his own terms, but people are just feeling everything.

“I don’t think people are happy because, at the end of the day, nobody really wanted to see John leave, and they didn’t like the way he left. We all wanted to see him win. But I do think John is a company guy. I do think he would have gone into war over that ending. Because I think the way that John is, just knowing the person that he is, he just wants to keep paying it forward. He wants to make sure that he leaves the business better than he came in.”

Perhaps Natalya is onto something

It should be noted that the series finale of Seinfeld is widely regarded as one of the worst series finales of all time. On the same token, others proclaim the finale to be a perfect send-off to the long-running series.

So with this show’s finale having such divided opinions, perhaps Natalya is onto something.

Seinfeld ran on NBC for nine seasons from 1989 to 1998. While many speculated the show would eventually return for a one-off special, it never happened. And if Cena’s comments are truthful, despite people believing he hasn’t really retired, he’s hung up the jorts for good.
