While it’s likely the debate surrounding the finish of John Cena‘s last match in WWE will go on for quite some time, one AEW talent believes the company did the right thing.
On the latest episode of Grilling JR, the All Elite Wrestling commentator spoke about the John Cena’s last match against Gunther at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. The former WWE Head of Talent Relations believes the company made the right call with the finish.
“I thought it was the right call,” Jim Ross said. “John Cena is a legacy; winning or losing was not going to affect that. He was already a made man. Tony Soprano did not need to shoot one more person to be a badass. He’d already killed plenty, and he was the guy.”
Ross would also go on to heap praise on Cena’s opponent, Gunther. Noting that if he were to start his own territory, The Ring General would be one of the first people he would want.
“Here’s a guy that’s really made his body. Have you seen those pictures of Gunther a few years ago? God damn. I think he’s a blessing, and I think that they did the right thing. I’m a big fan of his,” Jim Ross said. “I guarantee you one thing. Of everybody on the WWE roster, and they’ve got some great talent, but if I had a territory and I just won the lottery, and I’m going to start my own territory and I got to do a draft, I promise your ass, Gunther will be near the very top echelon.
“He’s got character. He’s got integrity. He takes care of himself. He looks good. He’s got one of the great looks in wrestling. So, I think they did the right thing, and because I don’t think you could do anything to hurt Cena.”
