WWE Hall Of Famer Reached Out To Vince McMahon To Return After Shocking Storyline

This WWE Hall of Famer reached out to Vince McMahon after watching a WrestleMania program.

In 2007, Vince McMahon brought Donald Trump into a full-length storyline on the road to WrestleMania 23. The “Battle of the Billionaires” saw McMahon select Umaga to represent him against Trump and Bobby Lashley.

McMahon raised the stakes by introducing a stipulation that the loser would have their head shaved bald. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was booked as the special guest referee, and the match took place on the grandest stage of them all.

The bout featured Donald Trump getting physical with Vince McMahon, taking the then-WWE Chairman down with a clothesline. Bobby Lashley ultimately picked up the win by spearing Umaga, after which Lashley, Trump, and Austin joined together in the ring to shave McMahon’s head.

Bret Hart on calling Vince McMahon after Donald Trump feud

During an appearance on Inside The Ropes, multi-time WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart revealed that he reached out to WWE after watching Vince McMahon’s program with Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23.

“I called Vince [McMahon], I was living in Hawaii at the time,” Hart revealed. “And having a pretty good life down there and having a good life and happy and everything. I didn’t need wrestling or anything, but I called up WWF [WWE] and talked to some guy named Kevin Dunn was his name. He’s one of Vince’s right-hand guys.

“And I said, ‘Yeah, I’d like to talk to Vince about maybe doing a storyline, an angle, and coming back. I just watched him wrestle Donald Trump yesterday; I could wrestle him.’ I can’t because of my concussion injury that I had at the time, which was very real.” [H/T: Fightful]

Hart would have to wait three more years to wrestle McMahon on the big stage. The Hitman made a brief return in 2010 for a program with the man who famously screwed him out of the title in Montreal years earlier. The match is widely regarded as one of the worst WrestleMania bouts in WWE history.

WWE’s ties to Donald Trump have increasingly become part of the pro wrestling debate in recent years. Last week, Hall of Famer Mick Foley said he would no longer represent the company at public appearances due to Trump’s controversial remarks about actor and director Rob Reiner.
