James Gunn Reacts To AEW Star’s DC Universe Tribute

An AEW star’s recent DC Universe Tribute has received James Gunn’s approval.

All Elite Wrestling star Swerve Strickland did a Green Lantern tribute with his in-ring gear when he came out for his AEW World Championship match at World’s End. Strickland wore pants donned with a twist on the Green Lantern logo, and a jacket that also featured a green bullseye logo. He also wore a bona fide power ring, which glowed as he entered the arena.

The former AEW World Champion posted a clip of his entrance on his Instagram account, which received a like from DC Universe creator James Gunn. Strickland shared the news on X/Twitter with the caption, “Gunn Universe Approved.”

AEW’s official X/Twitter account also posted a picture showing the official DC and Green Lantern Instagram accounts commenting on Strickland’s tribute.

AEW and DC Comics have collaborated in the past, and they recently announced a two-issue crossover comic book event in 2026. They also launched a special preview edition, which was available for fans at New York Comic Con in October.

AEW’s Swerve Strickland Compared His WWE Run To LeBron James Losing The NBA Finals

During his appearance on a recent episode of the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Swerve Strickland compared his run as the leader of Hit Row in WWE to LeBron James losing the NBA Finals against the Mavericks in 2011.

“It takes losing the job to really believe it. I also felt like I was too giving, especially when they handed me Hit Row. I felt like Triple H wanted me to be LeBron in the [Miami] Heat, scoring, not passing the ball. That’s why I don’t think we did as well.

“I think I should have gotten the ball and been the LeBron with the team. Like when he lost it in the finals with the Mavericks, I felt like I should have been like, No, give me the ball. I felt like that was one of those moments. I didn’t take that initiative enough, strongly enough, and have been the franchise guy,” the AEW star said.
