WWE executive Bruce Prichard has pushed back against the long-running belief that Vince McMahon became out of touch during his later years.
Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard addressed fan criticism of Vince McMahon’s creative direction and explained why he believes that narrative misses the bigger picture.
“People always think Vince has lost touch. He doesn’t f*cking know what’s going on. Blah, blah, blah—he’s out of touch. He doesn’t know this. He doesn’t know that. That is not understanding Vince.”
According to Prichard, McMahon was never focused only on the present. Instead, he was constantly thinking far ahead. “When you know him and understand him a little bit better. Although I don’t know if anybody truly understands him.”
“He’s not in the now. He’s 10 years ahead. That’s where his brain is. That’s how his brain works.” While McMahon handled day-to-day decisions, Prichard said his real strength was long-term vision.
“He will look at the now. He will be in the now as far as executing things and working, but he’s thinking long term. He’s thinking, man, where are we going to be in 10 years? What are we going to do in 10 years? How do we take what we have right now? Where is it going to be? Is it going to work?”
Bruce Prichard said people thought Vince McMahon was crazy until it worked
He added that this mindset often made McMahon seem disconnected in the moment, even though many of his ideas eventually proved successful. “So you’re trying to talk to him about the now and maybe six months down the road or a year or two, and he’s already there. From the network to going public to just so many things over the years that he said and people thought he was crazy, but yet they’ve all come to fruition.” [H/T: ewrestlingnews]
