R-Truth Learned Of ‘Gut-wrenching’ WWE Release In An Unfortunate Way

R-Truth reflects on his release from WWE last year.

Netflix released the second season of WWE: Unreal earlier today, and the second episode focuses on the circumstances surrounding R-Truth’s release and subsequent return last year.

During the episode, R-Truth shared that he was taking his daughter to dance when he received the call from WWE about his release. WWE Superstars Rhea Ripley and Cody Rhodes revealed how they felt when they heard the news, and Hall of Famer Road Dogg became teary-eyed while sharing his reaction to Truth’s release.

“I was taking my daughter to dance that day. I got the call, I was released, and I put the tweet out. It was gut-wrenching.” R-Truth then shared his reaction to the outpour of support from fans and other wrestling personalities. “My phone was blowing up. Holy sh*t! I got like a thousand text messages. What the hell!”

Triple H says R-Truth’s release was just business and not personal

WWE had to bring R-Truth back after facing massive backlash from the fans, and the former United States Champion made a surprise return at Money in the Bank 2025. He interfered during John Cena and Logan Paul’s match against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. He attacked Cena and fled through the crowd, leaving Rhodes to take advantage and pin the 17-time world champion.

WWE: Unreal showed R-Truth meeting Triple H at Gorilla Position after his return. The Chief Content Officer hugged Truth and explained that the release was a business decision and not personal.

“Hey, happy this sh*t all worked out, man. None of that—I hope you know—was meant in any way other than just where we were, right? It’s just a business thing. I’m so f*cking happy you’re still here,” Triple H told Truth.
