Goldberg says signing with WWE back in 2003 was like walking into an “unwinnable situation.”
Speaking on the Going Ringside podcast at River City Wrestling Con, WCW legend Goldberg opened up about feuding with Triple H shortly after signing with WWE in 2003. He noted that he and The Game couldn’t stand each other at the time and that they had a confrontation even before he joined the promotion.
Since Triple H was married to Stephanie McMahon and already had strong backstage influence, Goldberg felt signing with the promotion at the time was like walking into an unwinnable situation. However, he shared that he and The Game ultimately set their differences aside, putting the business first, and praised the current WWE Chief Content Officer as a “good guy.”
“It was different at the time, because he and I couldn’t stand each other. And we were both represented by the same agent, and we had had a confrontation prior to me going to the WWE. And then, oh, by the way, he was married to Vince McMahon’s daughter. So it was kind of like me walking into an unwinnable situation,” Goldberg said. But I think the business prevailed, and truthfully, at the end of the day, he’s a good guy.”
Goldberg blasts Triple H for disrespectful way WWE retirement ended
Despite calling Triple H a “good guy” now, Goldberg criticized him in the past for the way his WWE retirement ended. As he was delivering his retirement speech after his loss against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, 2025, the broadcast ended abruptly due to time constraints. The promotion then had to upload his full speech on its official YouTube channel.
He expressed disappointment about how his WWE retirement ended while interacting with a fan at a meet-and-greet event. When the fan told him that the way WWE handled his retirement pi*sed him off, Goldberg replied that the promotion disrespected him. He also agreed when the fan accused Triple H of making the questionable call.
“Yeah, what do you think it did for me? It made me really happy, too,” Goldberg sarcastically said. It just shows what disrespect they have. When the fan asked if Triple H was the “jack*ss” who made that call, he said, “Probably. 100 percent.”
