Three years ago, Nia Jax began a fitness journey that has so far resulted in a 100-pound weight loss. According to the WWE star, part of that loss can be attributed to a newer physical hobby.
“It was something where it was like, Oh no, you shouldn’t do that. Somebody said you shouldn’t [do that]. [Because of] your size, stay in this kind of in this lane, because this person does this, and this person does that, and you are special here. So I’d always get sh*t on like, ‘Oh, you’re boring.’ I’m like, actually, no, I can do things, just you stay in the lane that you’re told to stay in,” Jax told Insight With Chris Van Vliet about her athletic abilities. “Now, I mean, I’ve played sports my entire life. I’ve never not played sports. I played basketball, soccer, baseball, anything I could. I’m a pickleball player now.”
When asked how often she plays pickleball, Jax admitted that the rate hasn’t been as frequent since she’s been on the road with WWE. During her time off, though, she’d spend up to five hours a day playing it with her church group.
Jax Says She Now Has Opportunity To ‘Lock In’
“It’s funny because right now, I just told one of the girls, and they were like, ‘No way,’ because they hadn’t seen me at my biggest,” Jax said about her current physique. “My fitness journey started three years ago. At this point, I’ve lost 100 pounds since I started. Not a lot of people saw me when I was that big, because I wasn’t really working here. And I tried to stay off the internet. But yeah, this is actually the weight I started in NXT at when I got hired. So it’s kind of like people haven’t seen that because I never really had the opportunity to lock it in, and I’ve been locked in. My nephew was like, ‘I’m 100 pounds.’ I’m like, ‘I know, I just lost you!'”
Jax, a former WWE Raw Women’s Champion, initially signed to WWE in 2014. In November 2021, WWE released her from her contract, though just two years later, she officially returned by attacking Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez on WWE Raw. Currently, she resides as a member of the SmackDown brand, with Lash Legend as her tag team partner.
