Fans and local businesses hoping to attend a WWE WrestleMania 42 viewing party might have some trouble doing so this year.
Each year, WrestleMania usually results in watch-along parties in the host city. According to a report from Fightful (via Fightful Select), that might be in jeopardy when WrestleMania 42 comes to Las Vegas.
The outlet notes that the distributor of the WrestleMania broadcasts has informed several Las Vegas establishments that they won’t be able to broadcast WrestleMania because of a new protocol. Normally, these establishments pay a licensing fee to broadcast the event, but there are new restrictions in place for businesses within 50 miles of the event, which takes place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. While unconfirmed, it’s believed that this was done to increase ticket sales for WrestleMania 42.
One source who spoke with Fightful believes the new protocol undermines one major point of WrestleMania, which is to boost Las Vegas tourism. Another source said that some smaller-scale businesses might try to bypass the new rule, but it would affect their UFC business.
WWE did not respond to a request for comment on the new protocol.
