CM Punk Called Out for Putting WrestleMania Main Event in Jeopardy on WWE RAW

CM Punk’s reputation as a fighting champion came under fire on the February 9 episode of WWE RAW when he was confronted for risking his WrestleMania 42 main event.

The tension unfolded in Cleveland as Punk agreed to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber later this month. In fact, he was even ready to defend it on RAW itself, but the RAW General Manager had other plans.

The situation began when Michael Cole attempted to interview Punk, only for Balor to cut him off and demand another title shot.

Balor reminded everyone he had left Punk laid out weeks earlier and made it clear he wasn’t finished being overlooked.

RAW General Manager Adam Pearce quickly stepped in. He warned that Roman Reigns’ WrestleMania challenge had taken effect and escorted Balor toward the exit.

That plan didn’t take into account CM Punk’s thoughts. Punk forced the issue, daring Balor to fight and agreeing to put the title on the line right now. Pearce objected, stressing that Punk was jeopardizing what WWE is billing as “one of the greatest main events in WrestleMania history.”

In the end, Pearce relented. The Raw GM made the match official for the Elimination Chamber before security escorted Balor away through the crowd.

Afterwards, Cole directly asked Punk why he would risk his WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion pushed back, saying he wasn’t gambling — he was building something.

He framed the decision as bravery, not recklessness. Moreover, he leaned into the idea that a true champion doesn’t duck challengers, especially when the crowd wants a fight.

CM Punk also took jabs at Reigns, stating he hates him and insisting their WrestleMania clash will end only one way — with Punk still champion. The message was clear: no safety nets, no rest holds, just straight-edge resolve.

With Elimination Chamber set for February 28 in Chicago, Punk now has to clear one major hurdle before Las Vegas.

For a man who built his legacy on taking risks, walking this tightrope feels less like a misstep and more like classic Punk — doubling down instead of backing off.
