In a crazy finish to tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, a new AEW Women’s World Champion was crowned in an extreme Strap Match.
During Wednesday’s episode of the show, Thekla took on Kris Statlander to try and take Statlander’s belt. In a match that had the added stipulation of involving straps, things immediately got chaotic. In the end, though, Thekla was able to do the impossible, and won, becoming the new champion.
The match featured a number of incredible spots and got very bloody toward the end. In the end, Thekla got some help from both Skye Blue and Julia Hart. Blue and Hart interfered to slow down Statlander, disracting her in the process. Using that time, Thekla then hit a Spear on Statlander, and hit her with a Curb Stomp for the win.
The win gives Thekla her first ever championship with the company. As for Statlander, her title reign comes to an end after 145 days, when she won the title at AEW All Out.
