TNA iMPACT Results
Tonight, TNA Wrestling comes to you live from the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Tom Hannifan thanks Matthew Rehwoldt, Gia Miller, and the TNA team for welcoming him back to the iMPACT Zone after he was assaulted last week by his former best friend, Steve Maclin. Hannifan says he will address the attack after the opening Knockouts World Title match between Arianna Grace and Jody Threat.
The camera then shows a shot of the crowd. Lillian Garcia is shown in attendance watching the show. The challenger and the champion then make their entrances. Arianna appears to have a new theme to suit her heel character.
Before the action officially begins, Tessa Blanchard, Victoria Crawford, and Mila Moore join the commentary team.
Arianna Grace (c) vs. Jody Threat – TNA Knockouts World Title Match
- The finish of the match saw Arianna Grace kick Jody Threat in the ribs before catching her with a roll-up for the win.
Winner and still TNA Knockouts World Champion: Arianna Grace
After the match, Carlos Silva is seen on the apron ready to hand the champion her title, but Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo snatches it away to place it on his fiancée.
Grade: C+
The best part of the match was the crowd, and that says an awful lot about the sloppy affair that took place inside the ring. Arianna has a great character but struggles between the ropes. As for the finish, no, I don’t want to comment on that.
Tom Hannifan addresses Steve Maclin’s attack
Tom Hannifan recaps the events from last week’s TNA iMPACT!. Hannifan says he was just trying to help the man he once thought was his friend. He adds that he feels disgusted knowing what Steve Maclin is doing.
Matthew Rehwoldt then chimes in, saying he hopes Mike Santana, or someone else, gives Maclin what he deserves. However, he says that is a matter for another time, because right now it is time to focus on the action.
We hear from The Elegance Brand
The Personal Concierge has the microphone. He apologizes for Ash By Elegance’s absence, claiming she has been dealing with mental health issues and blaming the fans for it. Heather By Elegance then tells the crowd to stop calling Ash a mark because she is her hero.
The Elegance Brand calls out Mickie James before pointing toward the cast of Mama June in the crowd. The audience immediately breaks into chants of “Mama June.”
Heather attempts to trash talk Mama June, while M says that Mama June sitting in the crowd is offensive.
Moments later, a familiar voice is heard as ODB emerges from the crowd carrying her beer box and tells The Elegance Brand to shut up. ODB fires back by calling the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship holders a bunch of knockoffs.
The Elegance Brand responds by quoting John Cena’s famous “You want some, come get some” catchphrase.
ODB then takes out the Knockouts Tag Team Champions before hitting Mr. Elegance with a low blow. She proceeds to hand sodas to Mama June and her family, who then pour them all over M and Heather to cap off the chaotic segment.
The System vs. The Righteous vs. Sinner & Saint vs. Rich Swann & BDE – No. 1 Contenders Match for the TNA World Tag Team Titles
- The finish of the match saw Brian Myers hit BDE with a spear before Bear Bronson sealed the victory with the Monster Driver.
Winners and new No.1 Contenders to TNA World Tag Team Titles: The System
Grade: A-
Great tag team action. Sinner and Saint delivered a fantastic performance in the match. This writer especially enjoys Rich Swann and his flurry of offense. The Righteous got some offense of their own, but the match ultimately belonged to The System.
A video package featuring Rosemary airs on TNA iMPACT.
We hear from Moose
Former TNA World Champion Moose is in the ring accompanied by Alisha Edwards. Moose questions The System for calling themselves a family. He then points to members of the Atlanta Falcons in the crowd and says that is what a real family looks like. Moose adds that he will be the proudest man in the room when John Abraham gets inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He then redirects his attention back to The System. Moose says you cannot beat the system, but he loves a good challenge. He announces an Atlanta Street Fight for next week’s TNA iMPACT!, promising to tear his former faction apart piece by piece.
Moose then calls Brian Myers “Edge’s b****.” He adds that he feels bad for Bear Bronson because Bronson cannot lace up his boots. Moose is about to address Eddie Edwards, but Alisha Edwards takes the microphone.
Alisha says she walked away from The System after their betrayal, but Moose convinced her to come back. She declares that she will stand in the corner of the “Face of the Franchise” as he carries out a systemic breakdown of The System.
Moose caps off the promo with an homage to Eli Drake (LA Knight), delivering his famous “Fact of Life” line.
Order 4 backstage segment
BDE is tense following his loss in the No. 1 contenders match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship, but Rich Swann tells him to cheer up. Swann says BDE proved once again that he belongs in this business.
Trey Miguel then walks up behind them and offers similar advice. The TNA International Champion says he has taken more losses than he can remember, but they never defined him.
Members of Order 4 then show up. John Skyler tells BDE and Swann that they blew their chance because The Great Hands would have won the tag team title No. 1 contenders match.
Things get heated after Miguel brings up Mustafa Ali’s casket match loss from two weeks ago. Jada Stone then shows up and gets into a shoving match with Tasha Steelz.
Skyler announces that Ali will return next week on TNA iMPACT! and tells Miguel that if he has a problem, he can step into the ring with The Great Hands.
Elayna Black vs. Mara Sade
- The finish of the match saw Elayna Black hit Mara Sade in the temple with brass knuckles before scoring the pinfall victory.
Winner: Elayna Black
Grade: B-
An interesting match with solid performances from both women. I have a feeling this rivalry could define the TNA Knockouts Division in the years to come. Sade did a great job selling throughout the match and comes across as a natural babyface.
As for Elayna, the brass knuckles may have been unnecessary because she had already left Sade on spaghetti legs after a knee to the face. Still, she is a heel, and a win is a win for her no matter how it comes.
Backstage brawl on TNA iMPACT
AJ Francis is backstage cutting a promo on Atlanta and the Atlanta Hawks. Hometown Man then shows up and tells Francis not to disrespect his hometown.
The two quickly get into a brawl. Francis clears HTM out of the frame, joking that he sends people packing from TNA Wrestling, only to get hit with a trash bin as both men disappear from view.
The King’s Speech with Elijah
Frankie Kazarian begins his usual heel trash talk before introducing his guest, Elijah. Kazarian praises the Guitar Case Casket Match between Elijah and Mustafa Ali and asks Elijah for his thoughts.
Instead, Elijah’s entrance music suddenly hits, and a spotlight shines on him while Kazarian stands in the dark, looking confused.
Elijah says he does not trust Kazarian. He then asks the crowd who wants to walk with Elijah, and the crowd loudly responds.
The banter goes back and forth until Kazarian grows tired of the disrespect. Just as things begin to heat up, both men are distracted by AJ Francis and Hometown Man appearing on the stage.
Francis picks up HTM for a Down Payment and sends him crashing onto a couple of “fans” on the ramp. Kazarian says he called that moment as Elijah walks over to check on the pile of fallen bodies.
Eric Young has a message for Leon Slater
Eric Young walks into a room and picks up a recorder sitting on the table before speaking directly into it.
Young sends a message to Leon Slater ahead of Slater’s upcoming TNA X Division Championship defense against Nic Nemeth.
EY makes it clear that he wants Slater to walk out with the title, offering his “support” before the big match. After delivering the message, Young places the recorder down, leaving the room as the camera continues to roll.
Another Rosemary video package
Tommy Dreamer and Carlos Silva are seated. Silva wonders if “she” is going to show up. Something magical happens, and Dreamer is suddenly replaced by Rosemary.
Silva is surprised, but his reaction looks awkward on camera, making it seem like a poorly acted spot. This writer won’t spoil what happens next, but it appears that Rosemary is in TNA for the long haul.
Leon Slater (c) vs. Nic Nemeth – TNA X Division Title Match
- The finish of the match saw Leon Slater hit Nic Nemeth with a Swanton 450 for the victory.
Slater’s post-match celebration is cut short by an assault from Eric Young. EY takes Slater to the outside and spiked him with a piledriver before snatching the title from Carlos Silva and taunting over the destroyed body of the TNA X Division Champion.
Grade: A-
A great match all around. Slater rocked Nemeth with a Blue Thunder Bomb, and the Styles Clash drew a huge reaction from the Atlanta crowd. Slater’s fisherman buster counter was a thing of beauty. Eric Young’s post-match assault hints at a possible challenge for Slater’s X Division Championship at TNA Sacrifice.
Former TNA World Champion gets reinstated
TNA World Champion Mike Santana is in the ring. Santana says accountability has brought him this far, but he cannot say the same about Steve Maclin. He references Maclin’s assault on Tom Hannifan last week and recounts going to bat for Maclin countless times. Santana says Maclin is due for an ass-whuppin’ and calls out Santino Marella to reinstate the former TNA World Champion.
Instead, Daria Rae appears and tells Santana that he doesn’t run the show — she does. However, Daria agrees with Santana that Maclin should be reinstated but insists she will decide when and where they fight.
Santino Marella then shows up and announces that Maclin will face Santana for the TNA World Championship at TNA Sacrifice on March 27. Santana warns Maclin that the moment he shows up on TNA iMPACT! next week, it’s on sight and Maclin’s “bitch ass” will be dropped.
As the commentary team recaps the week’s events, Tom Hannifan says this is exactly what Maclin wanted. Hannifan adds that Maclin attacking him broke his heart, but TNA enabled him — not only by reinstating him but also by giving him a world title opportunity at Sacrifice. Hannifan appears to be losing his cool, while Matthew Rehwoldt looks directly at the camera and declares that Steve Maclin is going to get his ass kicked at Sacrifice as the show goes off the air.
Overall Grade: B+
The live crowd was one of the highlights of the night. TNA should do more live shows to showcase that level of energy.
The opening match, however, was terrible, and it seems TNA has dropped the storyline between Arianna Grace and Santino Marella.
ODB surfacing in the iMPACT Zone was a nice surprise, and I enjoyed both the multi-man outing and the TNA X Division Championship match. Props to whoever edited the Rosemary video package — it was very creative.
As for the main event promo segment, I have a feeling TNA might pull a “Michael Cole” and turn Tom Hannifan heel to align with Steve Maclin.
That’s it for tonight, and this writer will be back with coverage of next week’s show.
