Nick Aldis has had enough of Gunther, and let it be known in a big way tonight.
During WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, Sami Zayn and Gunther teamed up to face off against Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. A win would’ve put Zayn and Gunther into a Fatal 4-Way match against Rhodes and Punk at SummerSlam for Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship. Instead, Gunther got a rude message from SmackDown’s GM.
During the match, Gunther and Zayn looked primed to win. The referee had just been knocked out, allowing Zayn to get some free hits in on both Rhodes and Punk. Then, Gunther picked up Punk’s belt and hit Rhodes with it while Punk and Zayn were out of the ring. A new ref came running down the ramp to make the count, and got to two before being pulled out.
The man who pulled the referee out was revealed to be none other than Aldis. He didn’t look too happy about his move, but nonetheless did it. As Gunther turned around to see what happened, Aldis then picked up Punk’s belt and hit Gunther with it, shocking the crowd and giving Rhodes and Punk the win.
The move comes as the ultimate tipping point between months of back-and-forth between Aldis and the stars, with Gunther choking out Aldis on SmackDown after a physical altercation between the two at WWE’s Night of Champions. On social media after the show, Aldis seemed to show no remorse for it, so it’s likely we haven’t seen the last of the feud between these two.
