Roman Reigns Admits What Could Cost Him Against CM Punk at WWE WrestleMania 42

The rivalry between Roman Reigns and CM Punk is growing more personal and intense as WrestleMania 42 comes closer. Both wrestlers have been trying to get into each other’s heads. While Reigns is known for staying in control, he recently admitted that his emotions could be his biggest weakness against Punk.

Reigns earned his shot at the World Heavyweight title by winning the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble. He chose to face Punk. This decision made their rivalry even stronger, especially since their history goes back to 2012 when The Shield debuted with Punk.

In recent weeks, things have gotten out of hand. On the last episode of WWE RAW, the Royal Rumble winner brutally attacked Punk and put him through the announcers’ table. However, Punk was seen laughing even after that, showing how he had a mental edge over Reigns.

Roman Reigns acknowledges CM Punk’s ability to capitalize on mistakes

Even with all his confidence, Reigns is taking his preparation seriously. During a recent interview with TMZ, he talked about how hard he is training for his 11th WrestleMania main event.

But for Reigns, the real challenge isn’t physical.

He admitted that controlling his emotions is the most important thing. While he feels stronger and more athletic than Punk, he knows Punk is very smart and can get into his opponent’s head. If Reigns loses focus, it could cost him the match.

Reigns said that’s exactly what Punk wants. It’s a rare moment where Reigns actually gave some credit to Punk.

“He’s not the athlete that I am, but he’s a hell of a competitor, he’s a veteran, he’s savvy. I have to make sure that I have all my ducks aligned. I’m focused because when I get a little bit emotional and take my eye off the ball, I can miss. So if I do everything right, he doesn’t have a chance. But he’s good at making people make mistakes, and if I somehow slip up or take a left when I should have made that right, he could capitalize,” Reigns said.

At the same time, CM Punk has been going all out in his promos. He has made things very personal by mentioning Roman Reigns’ late father, Sika Anoa’i. Reigns has taken shots as well, always calling Punk by his real name and calling him “old,” which triggered Punk.

From teaming up at Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 to getting betrayed by Paul Heyman, and now facing each other at WrestleMania 42, their history is full of twists.
