Kenny Omega has never shied away from giving his honest opinions, and his latest comments have brought back the idea of wrestling companies working together. Recently, he spoke about the collaboration between big promotions like WWE, TNA, and AEW.
His comments come at a time when things seem a bit tense between companies. WWE and TNA are working together right now. However, TNA has pulled some of its wrestlers from competing against AEW stars due to some “partner conflicts.” Some big matches, like MJF vs. Bear Bronson, have been cancelled recently.
Kenny Omega says WWE, TNA collaboration with AEW would be ‘great for fans’
In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown, Omega talked about a potential collaboration between WWE, AEW, and TNA. He also addressed the issue that stops them from doing that.
The AEW star admitted many companies stay in their own “bubble” and don’t look at the bigger picture. This stops wrestling from reaching its full potential.
“If you’re in a bubble for too long and you failed to realize what exists outside your bubble and how small your bubble is, and in this case, we’re talking about professional wrestling, I think you start to run into problems like this where someone will think that they’re better than somebody else, and that there is no reason to work together, and they don’t see the upside,” Omega said.
He believes that a resolution can come up if promotions could just be “nice” with each other.
“And I still think that we’re in a place where professional wrestling can still be more than what it is. And I do think that if there were situations where we could all play nice with each other, then I really do think that business as a whole would move in towards more of a positive direction, we’d see more of a positive trend,” Omega added.
At the same time, he understands it’s not easy. Cross-promotional matches bring tough questions, especially about who wins and how each company looks afterward. With money and reputation involved, these are real concerns.
“I understand with the amount of money that’s at play, that’s a very sensitive subject and a very sensitive issue. And if we get to a point where we’re starting to cross-promote or we’re having wrestlers wrestle against talent affiliated with WWE, for example, it becomes a sensitive topic as to how do we promote that? Who wins? Who loses?” Omega said. “
However, the AEW star still feels it’s “doable” if “everyone were to really just sit down and figure out a way to make it happen.” He compared it how massive crossover events work in other entertainment industries, like comics.
Omega even said he would be willing to talk to Tony Khan about the idea.
“I really do think that with how passionately I do feel about working together with everybody and anybody, that I think Tony would hear me out and also entertain the idea as well,” he said.
In a business built on rivalry, Omega is pushing for unity.
