It seems like fans will have to wait to see Asuka vs. IYO SKY face off, because it doesn’t look like it’s happening at WrestleMania 42.
WWE has been teasing a feud between IYO SKY and Asuka for several weeks. Last week, IYO challenged Asuka to a match at WrestleMania 42, which came after Asuka called her out on RAW. IYO has now removed her post where she issued the challenge on social media. A new report suggests the match won’t happen this month.
During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that it’s not a guarantee it won’t take place at WrestleMania, but Backlash is more likely.
“A couple days ago she put up something on social media, which is basically a challenge. ‘Asuka I challenge you for WrestleMania.’ So at that point when she put that up. It’s like okay, they’re going to do the match and they’re going to announce the match on Monday cause she’s put up the challenge. You would never do that unless you were told to do it right? So today she took it down. No one has told me it’s dead,” Meltzer said (via Wrestling Inc.) “The last I heard was that it could happen, but it would probably be moved to Backlash. But it’s not like it’s for sure that it’s going to be moved to Backlash.”
Meltzer also stated that the SKY and Asuka match would have taken place on night two of WrestleMania, which currently has six matches advertised. However, the likely reason it might get cut is due to Sunday’s card being timed out already. WWE could have realized they don’t need to add another match to that lineup.
